tetris
i just finished playing a couple of rounds of tetris, having my main goal to beat my high score (300k+) but i was couldn't even get past 100k+. i was starting to question if i broke the keyboard of my laptop. or maybe it's just not my luck today. i gave up on my goal. i'll try another time.
after i "left" facebook, years passed by and i remembered tetris. i logged back in to my facebook account, i remember at the time, i think it was when facebook was getting updated into meta, the layout made me feel old. i didn't like it. the layout feels like it's the shape of a starburst (no shade on starburst i love those chewy candies) but mentos mint color and flavor... that was too specific. anyways.
tetris wasn't there anymore... and upon reading briefly online (haven't honestly done a deep dive so don't quote me on this one) basically it won't come back.
i remember when i was a kid, tetris was a big thing, like plants vs. zombies. i loved the block designs, themes, etc. and you can battle with other players! that's what made tetris fun because you can play with other people in tetris battles.
i think tetris is a nice brain game. i play it now to "warm up" my brain before studying and as a "reward" after studying. as you play tetris the falling blocks get faster and faster the more you gain points.
so really, it's like running a treadmill for your brain, the brain has to decide quickly on how the block will turn, you also have to be aware of the next blocks coming and where to place them, whether you hold the block or not, when to do your combos, if i have a HERO (the straight 4 block) on hold and im waiting for a hero to come and i have made a tower of blocks leaving one space on the side for combos, but it's reaching the top, do i drop my held block now or wait for another hero for combo points? when it's too fast and i have a lot of holes in my tower i have to clear one at a time so it doesn't reach the top too quickly, but each one being cleared is points and more points mean quicker drops.
it's really fun, i have some of my friends play, apparently they've never played it before when it used to be a thing on facebook (maybe it's not as big as i thought)
i learned the names of the blocks just now: TETRIMINOS (tetromino, tetrimino, blocks, tetrads)
HERO - 5 block (aqua)
ORANGE RICKY - right facing block (orange)
BLUE RICKY - left facing (blue)
CLEVELAND Z - Z (red)
RHODE ISLAND Z - opposite Z (green)
SMASHBOY - 4 square block (yellow)
TEEWEE - upside down T block (purple)
and no i haven't watched the movie, again tetris was just one of those games that you played as a kid and forgot about. (i still play tetris and plants vs. zombies when i remember them)
it's nice to go back to things you used to enjoy as a kid. movies, music, books, games. it's like showing my inner child "hey look at us play again, but we're faster and better now because we're an adult" like how she'd watch her older cousins play swiftly on the games thinking she'd like to be as good as them.
contemplating on buying a keyboard. but bluetooth keyboards don't seem reliable. wouldn't want a lag when im playing you know, those blocks drop so fast.
survived midterms, but i have a report due during spring break. yes. DURING. 3000 is daunting..... and when we get back it's exams and then the academic year is done.
everything's happening so fast like tetris blocks.
