look back directed by kiyotaka oshiyama
the art style reminded me of children of the sea so i watched it.
children of the sea was beautiful to watch but the plot was so complex. i mainly watch it for the visuals and soundtrack.
anyways, this movie. look back... it's a short 58 minute movie and the plot also felt short. more like a summary of events.. or scenarios... the main characters being fujino and kyomoto. it's about their friendship basically, a friendship that started because of drawing. manga. fujino is a manga artist while kyomoto does more traditional art but kyomoto admired fujino's manga strips on their school news paper. so much she calls fujino, fujino-sensei.
technical stuff, art style reminded me children of the sea but simplified, which is a style of their own. it doesn't have much layers in terms of colour, it might look plain at first but it's not. i wonder if it's more difficult to achieve such look? it had a lot of close up shots on the characters faces and you can see that it's not as detailed. but the "structure" is there. what i'm trying to say is, i like the art style, it's cartoonish but they move fluidly. soundtrack, nothing that stood out to me, but, there was a part of the movie that made me appreciate sound in movies.
it's to show how art, in movies, is an orchestra.
it's an easy watch with a clear message. nothing really shocking or a complicated storyline. i liked the flow of the movie.
made me want to draw... so i will :)
